감각 기관은 자극을 받아들이고 말초신경계를 통해 중추신경계인 뇌나 척수로 전달한다. 뇌에서 행동을 결정하면 만들어진 신호가 다시 말초 신경계로 전달되어 운동기관이 반응한다.
