생명체의 세포내외에는 여러 가지 무기염류가 이온으로 존재하는데 생명활동으로 인하여 내외의 이온이 이동하는 현상이 일어나면 전류가 흐르게 된다. 이온화경향이 각각 다른 두 금속판 위에 손을 올려 놓으면 우리 몸속의 무기 염류가 두 금속을 연결하는 전해질 역할을 하므로 우리 몸을 통해 전류가 흐르게 된다.

Various minerals exist as ions inside and outside of organisms and a current flows when these ions move due to vital activity. When you put your hands on two metal plates that have different ionization tendencies, a current flows through your body since the minerals in your body act as electrolytes that connect the two plates.
